Online vs in-person personal training: which is right for you?

Pros of each modality, when to combine them, and how to filter on CoachRadar.

In person: real-time feedback

Best if you’re new to strength training, have injury history, or thrive on face-to-face accountability. The coach fixes form on the spot and adjusts loads in-session.

Downsides: travel, fixed times, and often higher price. If you travel a lot or work odd shifts, it can get hard.

Online: flexibility and cost

Works well if you already have basic technique, a home gym or gym membership, and the discipline to send form videos or do check-ins. It’s usually cheaper and not tied to the same city.

Less ideal if you’ve never trained with barbells/dumbbells and need hands-on form every week. In that case, a few in-person sessions first help a lot.

Hybrid (both)

Many coaches on CoachRadar mark modality “In person & online”: 1–2 visits a month + a weekly plan via app or video. That’s a sweet spot for results and budget.

When you contact them, ask how sessions split, which tools they use (Zoom, WhatsApp, app), and how often they review progress.

How to filter on CoachRadar

On signup and profile, coaches choose in person, online, or both. When searching, check the modality tag on each card and full profile.

If you only want online, you can contact coaches in other states as long as they offer remote. For in person, use city or GPS.
